First-prize: 'Guan Incense (Guanxiang)' tree in the Guanxiang Garden of Qingxi Township

The winners' list of top ten beautiful trees in Dongguan was released last Wednesday. The 'Guan Incense (Guanxiang)' tree in the Guanxiang Garden of Qingxi Township, kapok on Dongjiang Avenue, Zhangchun Village of Dongcheng District, and Adenanthera in Dahou Village of Xiegang Township represent the three most beautiful trees in Dongguan.

The contest, organized by the Municipal Afforestation Committee since September this year, has attracted more than 50 organizations and individuals to recommend various trees covering all towns and districts. More than 40,000 people participated in the voting. The Committee firstly chose 50 candidate trees, and then experts went to 20 towns and districts such as Xiegang, Qingxi and Zhangmutou to view the candidate trees. Their appraisal criteria include the trees' morphology, health condition, leaves roots flowers fruits, living environment, and cultural background.

The other six ranking in the list are, Ficus altissima in Gukeng Village of Zhangmutou Town, Eugenia multiflora Hence in Xintang Village of Dalingshan Town, almond tree in Liuhuang Village of Chashan Township, Bischofia Polycarpa in Jiuwei Village of Qishi Town, Kapok in Tieling Village of Qishi Town, small-leaf Banyan in Hengkeng Village of Liaobu Town, and small-leaf Banyan in Daping Community of Tangxia Town.

The contest strictly requires that only trees more than 30 years old can take part in the contest. Among the hundreds of recommended trees, more than 20 are over 500 years old. The eldest is 1007 years old from Qishi Town.
