Star-rated hotels are an important resource of Dongguan’s tourism assets. By the end of 2007, Dongguan had 98 high-star hotels in total, including 18 5-star hotels and 26 4-star hotels. Second only to Beijing and Shanghai in the number of five-star hotels, Dongguan ranks on top in the number of high-star hotels among prefecture-level cities.

The occupancy rate of Dongguan’s high-star hotels also comes first among prefecture-level cities. Annually, Dongguan’s hotels accommodate more than eight million business and leisure travelers from home and abroad, capturing over 60% of the city’s tourism revenues. High-star hotels are an important symbol that highlights the city’s tourism image, as well as a tangible embodiment of its superior investment environment. Evolving from traditional supporting facilities for tourism into a type of tourism resource in a broader sense, the hotel industry of Dongguan City has become a significant driving force in the thriving of its leisure tourism, entertainment, shopping and convention business.
