| Dongguan is one of the cradles of South of the Five Ridges civilization. It is a habitat of prehistoric human 5000 years ago, and in the third century AD, Jin Dynasty, it was made a county. In the Tang Dynasty it was renamed as Dongguan. Additionally, Dongguan is the place which initiated the first stage of the modern history of China. More than 170 years ago, Lin Zexu led an army of volunteers and local people to fight against UK invaders and destroyed the opium trade. It was a touching and inspiring event in history. As well, Dongguan is the forerunner of the reform and opening-up policy. In 1978 the first enterprise in China engaging in processing, assembling and compensation trade was founded here. All kinds of cultures of traditional and modern types, east and west, coast and inland are blended here, forming the tolerant, harmonious, moral and realistic culture of Dongguan’s characteristics. |
