Hotel and restaurants are classified and rated by the State Ministry of Commerce according to the Regulations for Classification and Gradation of Hotels and Restaurants (GB/T13391-2000). Standard and regulated management are carried out in catering industry with the focus on the establishment of a Safety System for Food Hygiene. The evaluation covers seven categories such as the facilities, service quality, dish quality, management level, maintenance of facilities, as well as their hygiene and cleanliness. A series of complete, regulated and comprehensive criteria are implemented.

The Municipal Government of Dongguan pays much attention to the construction of a Safety System for Food Hygiene and the regulated development of food service industry. The classification and gradation of hotels and restaurants has been included as the support objects of Dongguan Commercial Circulation Industry Fund. The National restaurants (five-star), first-class restaurants (four-star), and second-class restaurants (three-star) have been awarded respectively with 300,000 yuan, 200,000 yuan and 100,000 yuan. The classification and gradation of hotels and restaurants has started in Dongguan since 2006. 12 National restaurants were selected during 2006 and 2007 among which there were 10 five-star restaurants and 2 four-star ones.

Five-star: Dongguan Hotel, East Ocean -Victoria City Restaurant, Xiyingmen Seafood Restaurant, Donghai Seafood Restaurant, Jinxiu Restaurant
Four-star: Dongguan Cocovilla, Shizhen Restaurant

Star-rated Restaurants (2007):

Five-star: Royal Garden Hotel, Miraton Hotel, Tanggong Seafood Restaurant, Dongxiang Holiday Restaurant, Dongxing Restaurant.
